The Army Combat Uniform is designed to improve access to pockets as well as increase comfort levels while wearing interceptor body armor. Its 50% cotton and 50% nylon ripstop fabric content makes the Army Combat Uniform world-wide deployable. Its pixelated pattern of green-woodland, grey-urban, and sand-brown desert allows for better concealment in any terrain.
Several changes have been made to improve functionality of the Army Combat Uniform: The bottom pockets on the jacket were removed and placed on the shoulder sleeves so Soldiers have access to them while wearing body armor, the pockets were tilted forward for easy accessibility, buttons were replaced with zippers that open from the top and bottom to provide comfort while wearing armor, and patches and tabs are affixed to the uniform with Velcro, allowing nametapes and patches to be removed from uniforms before laundering, and eliminating the cost of having them sewn on.
NSN Army Combat Uniforms: These are official, authorized NSN uniforms by Propper™, a U.S. Department of Defense contract manufacturer.
While these uniforms are authentic, they DO NOT have the IFF squares sewn on the pocket flap due to the sensitive nature of the material. The Velcro backed IFF squares may be purchased separately and attach perfectly. Army.com does not carry the IFF squares. These can typically be found at any base supply store.
The ACU and the BDU fit the same in the waist and chest. However, they feel different because the cut is different. The ACU is roomier through the middle of the blouse and is roughly two inches shorter in length than the BDU. This noticeable change is by design.
NSN No. 8415-01-519-8501 (S, regular) NSN No. 8415-01-519-8510 (M, regular) NSN No. 8415-01-519-8599 (L, regular) NSN No. 8415-01-519-8613 (XL regular)
NOTE TO MILITARY PERSONNEL: THIS GARMENT HAS NIR TECHNOLOGY AND IS APPROVED FOR MILITARY OPERATIONS.
Near Infrared (NIR) Signature Management Technology is used by the U.S. Department of Defense to prevent detection by NIR Image Converters. These photocathode devices do not detect temperatures, but rather infrared radiation variances. NIR-compliant uniforms use a special fabric that allows soldiers to appear at the same radiation level as the surrounding terrain, thus making them more difficult to detect. |
